Last major VHS distributor throws in towel

You may have ditched your VHS player a few years ago, and indeed perhaps got rid of your DVD player for some HD goodness, but Florida based Distribution Video Audio has been making a pretty penny touting the VHS tapes to those not upgrading for the past few years.

Not anymore though.

“It’s dead, this is it, this is the last Christmas, without a doubt,” DVA co-owner Ryan Kugler said. “I was the last one buying VHS and the last one selling it, and I’m done. Anything left in [the] warehouse we’ll just give away or throw away.”

Those not enjoying disk-based media include public libraries, military installations, cruise ships and truck stops - seemingly providing business for DVA whilst we all moved on. This won’t last forever though, as we all know…

“The DVD will be obsolete in three or four years, no doubt about it. Everything will be Blu-ray,” said Kugler. “The days of the DVD are numbered. And that is good news to me.”

Perhaps, but have you thought about downloads? Not much need for your warehouses there Mr Kugler.

The last major Hollywood studio VHS release was A History of Violence in 2006. Don’t forget to rewind!
