iPhone Nano rumours

Several sources have this week leaked details that Apple may be planning to release an smaller version of their successful iPhone product.

A post on iDealsChina details a phone smaller than the iPhone in height and width, but is fatter. They also contend that it will have the same sensor capabilities as it’s bigger brother, and a touch screen. 3G will not feature, possibly due to constraints on battery life.

If true the device will be announced and launched at the Macworld Expo in January, having been made in 60,000 - 80,000 daily runs from December 20th. This certainly would be interesting as Steve Jobs isn’t scheduled to present a keynote at this event, which begs many questions such as who will announce it, and is Jobs’ health in question?

These rumours have apparently been backed up by case manufacturer XSKN who have started selling their iPhone Nano cases today.

XSKN have previously correctly predicted the iPhone 3G and 4G iPod Nano launches by announcing cases early.

A simpler model is arguably required to improve Apple’s standing in the mobile phone marketplace. The iPhone takes a lion’s share of the mindshare in the smartphone space, so it appears that the only factor preventing it’s complete domination of mobile phone market is that some people only use their phone for  making calls or simple tasks.
